Trevor’s 5 Non-Negotiables for Business and Life

6:50 – Trevor’s backstory. His journey and struggles.

13:00 – Struggling with motivation. How he worked through being in the wrong business mindset.

17:25 – Non-negotiable #1: Singular focus on ONE big thing

Entrepreneurs see opportunities everywhere. That can be good and bad. Taking on too many opportunities can cause burnout and lack of clarity.

During Trevor’s early entrepreneurial journey, he was running two software companies and a publishing company while also managing real estate investments and performing some consultations. It drained him and eventually he wasn’t performing at his best.

Part of his non-negotiable list, Trevor gave himself permission to focus on just 1 big thing and concentrate on performing at his very best.

25:25 – Non-negotiable #2: Have fun and a mission you believe at your core

After four years, fun wasn’t part of Trevor ‘s core mission. And it was starting to show in his life.

You need a mission. You need to feel like you’re making a difference. And, you need to have fun.

Don’t beat yourself up if you don’t have a solid, defined purpose. Don’t stress, it will come along naturally. For Trevor, he realized that he had actually bake it into what he did every day.

39:05 – Non-negotiable #3: Be consistent and predictable

Non-negotiable is about getting eliminating the boom or bust business cycle. Finding ways to create a consistent and predictable income.

There are times that you might be turning away money, but it’s worth it because it allows you to better predict your income and plan for the future.

Non-negotiable #4: Build a long-term valuable asset

Entrepreneurs easily get caught up on the transactional side of their business. Don’t be left with anything to show but a handful of contracts.

You’ll need to build something that has its own value. A force with a team and one that you might even be able to sell one day.

41:30 – Non-negotiable #5: Find your purpose. Live and work with your unique abilities

It can be as simple as spreading kindness or making someone laugh every day.

Although, at the same time, you’ll need to work on finding and crafting your unique abilities. Part of that is discovering what give you energy and what kills it.

Use Trevor’s energy audit to explore this concept. Follow his plan for adding more energy producing tasks to your day and remove some energy killing tasks.

Ideally, you’re looking to spend at least 60% of your time on things that give you energy.
