    Google My Business’ new update is changing the business results we see in Google.

    We’re all used to these undescriptive results that offer little more than a star-rating, location, and a business name.

    But Google’s new feature allows small businesses to create “posts,” which are a combination of a picture, a title, a description, and a CTA that have a chance of showing up in Google results and Google Maps.

    This is an example of what the new feature looks like as a result.

    When you search for a local business, it’s likely that a result showing a rating, hours of operation, directions, and a phone number is at the forefront. This is because in January of 2016, Google released a similar feature under the title, “candidate cards” and then slowly started allowing small businesses to use the feature.

    But now, it’s available to everyone, it’s called “Posts” in Google My Business, and it’s completely free for small businesses.

    But What Are Google My Business Posts?

    It’s basically a simple way to showcase your business more than previous installations of Google My Business (especially because so few people are currently using it). You can input your business name, your hours of operation, and — here’s the unique part — any sort of deals, upcoming events, newly-released products, or sign-up CTA’s.

    In Google’s words,

    “When customers find your business on Google, they can see offers, news, and events from your business posts that show on Google Search and Maps. You can use posts to tell customers about:

    • Events such as a jazz brunch or an in-store session
    • Offers/specials such as sales and discounts
    • Product updates such as new merchandise
    • Announcements such as ‘Open late this Saturday’ or ‘Special guests this week!’”

    Once you’ve filled out the information appropriately, your post will have a chance to rank in Google search and Google Maps. Here’s what the new “posts” feature looks like on desktop…

    It’s easy to use, free to benefit from, and might just give you the edge you need against the market’s competition.

    But how do you use it?

    It’s wildly simple.

    Here’s How To Use It

    You probably have already created a business account with Google. But in case you haven’t, simply go to Google My Business and get started, filling out the appropriate information.

    Once you have an account set up, login into Google My Business.

    Click on “Posts” on the left side of your screen.

    And then create your post.

    As a real estate investor, you can use Google My Business “Posts” section to target the “sell my house fast in [location]” keywords. Once you do, your result has a chance of appearing in Google or Google Maps.

    Four Pieces Of Advice:

    1. Include an image

    The more visual your post, the more likely it is to perform well. It’s no secret that humans are naturally visual creatures. Google allows you to include a high-resolution image marketing your business. Don’t miss the opportunity.

    2. Find Your Lead Magnet

    Where will you send people? Do you want them to go straight from searching to selling their house with you? Do you want them to schedule a phone call, get a free consultation, or sign up for your email list?

    Choose a single attractive selling point and discuss only that in your post.

    3. Mind The Details

    You only have 58 characters for the title so you need to keep it relatively short. Similarly, you have 1,500 characters to include in the details of your post but Google suggests only using between 150 and 300 of those characters for your description section.

    4. Use A Clear Call-To-Action

    After you’ve determined what your lead magnet is, choose a fitting call to action. Something like “Sign Up,” “Call Now,” or “Learn More.”

    A Few Words Of Caution

    Note what Google has to say in regards to “What Not To Do.”

    1. “Don’t use commercial slang:

    ‘BOGO: 50% off men’s sneakers.’

    2. Don’t use excessive exclamation marks or all caps:

    ‘Crazy SALE today!!!’

    3. Don’t include more than one theme or offer in one communication:

    ‘Half price coffee and tea from 3-6 PM on Fridays, and buy 6, get one free donut on weekdays.’

    4. Don’t craft a deal with too many exclusions:

    ‘10% off new seasonal sandwiches. Not valid on lunch specials.’”

    Is Google My Business’ “Posts” Worth Your Time?

    Absolutely. It takes very little time to set up your post, and the return potential is high. I recommend doing this as soon as possible because the longer that this tool is around, the more people who will start using it.

    You have a short window of opportunity where you can use Google My Business to rise above the competition.

    Over the past 3 years, we have dedicated thousands of hours to our weekly LIVE Mastermind Calls with our members. In fact, we have hosted upwards of 138 calls… helping our clients through every phase of crushing it online.

    [Google Search Update] – Google Is Looking At Mobile Popups More Closely

    Did you see the latest Google search announcement?

    If you missed it, the official announcement can be seen here.

    But the main point is summarized below.

    January 10, 2017 update: Starting today, pages where content is not easily accessible to a user on the transition from the mobile search results may not rank as high. As we said, this new signal is just one of hundreds of signals that are used in ranking and the intent of the search query is still a very strong signal, so a page may still rank highly if it has great, relevant content. Please head to the webmaster forums if you have any questions.

    So what does this mean?

    As you may already know, Google is big on user experience. The update is saying that if you have high-quality content your site will still rank but it might be hurt if you have mobile pop-ups blocking user’s ability to navigate your site.

    Let’s be clear here, we are only talking mobile.

    And we think Google has the right idea about pop-ups on mobile devices because when they are not done correctly, closing them or navigating away from them can be difficult.

    The last thing you want to do is frustrate the end user.

    Here are a few examples of mobile popups type ads that Google would say harm a user’s ability to navigate a website.

    Some common ways that real estate websites have used pop-ups in the past are

    • Signing up for a newsletter
    • Access to a report
    • Creating a free account for their service
    • Signing up for a webinar or training
    • Getting a free ebook

    In Google’s eyes, these may be distracting to the user experience and therefore would be counted as a negative in their search algorithm.

    However, pop-ups that are for important notices like your website’s cookie policy or a small banner that doesn’t take up the entire screen are viewed as okay and not as harmful to the user’s experience.

    What does this mean for your website?

    If you are an InvestorCarrot member, not a whole lot. We don’t have any pop-up ads built into websites because we have tested it in the past and concluded that it wouldn’t significantly help increase conversion rates (in some cases it hurt conversion rates).

    The test looked like this.

    Here are a few snapshots of data to show you how infrequently the pop-up style offers work on InvestorCarrot websites.

    You will notice that in each of these tests the conversion rate is somewhere around 1% or less. Most of these sites convert above 6% on average.

    But this isn’t a 1 to 1 ratio. This isn’t saying that the 1% hurt conversion rates because these are likely leads that would not have opted in before leaving and being met with the form.

    However, from a user experience stand-point, showing the pop up to every user hardly justifies us putting them on every website.

    The biggest takeaway is that Google is now looking for these types of website elements.

    Anytime Google makes an announcement about their algorithm it is wise to take notice.

    We can conclude from this type of change that Google is still really big on user experience in the search results and how they look at websites for Mobile viewers and Desktop viewers is different in their eyes.

    2,000+ runners and walkers brought positive attention to the tragic events that happened at Umpqua Community College in 2015 in our small Oregon community.

    The Umpqua Strong Race 9k and 5k event was created to honor the victims and raise money for UCC foundation. The event raised more than $60,000 which goes toward funding 10 scholarship programs in the names of the shooting’s victims and survivors.

    It’s a HUGE testament to the amazing community of clients, listeners, and team members we’ve been able to attract over the years that we were able to raise over $6,700 for the cause!

    4 years ago, Carrot was a one-man show… then we quickly added our CTO, built out the Customer Success team. Now the team is continually growing to stay ahead of the curve so our members can also stay ahead of the curve from their competition.

    We’ve been proud to add 3 more full-time members to the Carrot team. We’re also super excited and humbled to have the opportunity to amplify our members lives as well as our team and their families.

    Carrot Office Expansion Of 2016!

    As our team grew, we took over more of theLoft Entrepreneur Co-Workspace that we run here in Roseburg, Oregon… quadrupling our square footage and adding a kegerator (which every office needs right?). We added a new content studio, a nice spot for our customer success team to crush it everyday, and more!

    Running For A Reason: Umpqua Strong Race… YOU Helped Raise Over $60,000 For Scholarships

    A few years back we started this company and we decided to do it differently than my previous companies.

    We said… “Everything will be focused on us living and delivering our Core Values within our team and our customers, building fun into our company, being a ‘beacon of positivity and possibility‘ for our clients and community, and truly genuinely care about people… so this company and our team can amplify those great people and great causes around us”.

    umpstrongFast forward 3 years and it’s pretty humbling and awesome seeing this company grow with intention.

    Last weekend was one of those times.

    Over 2,000 runners and walkers set out to bring positive attention to the tragic events that happened at Umpqua Community College one year ago in our small Oregon community.

    The Umpqua Strong Race 9k and 5k event was born to honor the victims and raise money for UCC foundation. The event raised more than $60,000 which goes toward funding 10 scholarship programs in the names of the shooting’s victims and survivors.

    YOU, the Carrot community and our Carrot team was able to raise over $6,700 for the cause and it’s a HUGE testament to the amazing community of clients, listeners, and team members we’ve been able to attract over the years.

    The Carrot Team wants to send a HUGE thank you to everyone who made a pledge towards the cause! Thank you for everyone who sent prayers toward our community this past year. Thank everyone for being inspired to also “genuinely care” and be that “beacon of positivity and possibility” in your world and to pass those good vibes here to Roseburg, Oregon… a community most of you have never been to.

    It means a lot.

    So with that said, we wanted to write up a quick little post and share the day with all of you. You helped make a massive difference and we’re proud as heck of having you in our lives.     Using Zillow’s data, we are able to show you useful information about the lead’s property right inside your Carrot dashboard.

    This helps you quickly see if the lead is a hot lead, questions to follow up on while you are on the phone, or a great way to see the house details without having to go out to Zillow to search for it.

    I Like the New Lead format. (Specifically) I like attaching to Zillow. I can get a quicker idea where the house is on the map. Plus I can see comparable recent sales all within a minute of getting a text message.
