To make habits stick, the change has to happen in our minds, not in our schedule. Once it happens in your mind, your schedule will then follow.

    Trevor Mauch, CEO of Carrot

We’re bringing you a micro-episode of the CarrotCast just in time for the new year. I’ve talked a lot over the past few years about the power of visualizing your future and changing your habits to become the person you want to be.

This is something that I’m really passionate about and I’m convicted that if you want to make those changes in your life, it needs to happen today… not tomorrow, or on New Year’s Day.

I wanted to get personal in this episode and share a couple of my own stories so that you can understand how this mindset has completely changed not only my life, but my wife’s, my kid’s, and even some of our members.

Listen to this quick episode and then hit me up on Instagram. I want to hear how it impacts you. Also, don’t forget to join me Dec 29th at 9:00 for my free annual EPIC planning call at Carrot.com/EPIC.

I’m grateful to get to serve you and I’m super pumped about crushing 2019 with ya’ll! See ya soon!

New Year’s Resolutions Are For Suckers – Do This Instead

“Who do you need to become to lead the people in your life that are counting on you?”

“To make habits stick, the change has to happen in our minds, not in our schedule. Once it happens in your mind, your schedule will then follow.”

“Forget about January 1st. What will you do today to become the person you need to be?”

“A lot of us are brought up into the mindset of – we work so then we can get money to put in the bank, then we can retire, then we can finally enjoy our life. But, that’s backwards. The work should be the enjoyment that fuels your passion and helps you make the impact.”

Habits create the person you want to become.

    Trevor Mauch, CEO of Carrot

It’s been a really interesting year. This is the year that I’ve probably had to grow the most personally. As the team grows, you really start to look at yourself and go, Man, The main bottleneck of growth in the company is you as the CEO.

If you’re not growing faster than the pace of the company, then you’re gonna hold the company back. So, for me, there were spots where the company was growing fast and it could grow faster but the problem was I really needed to up-level the way that I lead.

So in this episode, I’m going to recap my year for 2018 and some of the lessons, the key lessons, that I learned.

At the end of the day, I don’t gauge my worth on which goals I’ve hit.

    Trevor Mauch, CEO of Carrot

We’re going to be doing a recap for 2018 on the podcast pretty soon. But if you’re reading this any other year, this podcast episode is going to be just as relevant today, the time that I’m recording it, as it is gonna be five years and five years from now.

Here’s the topic I want to dive into. When we’re looking at our planning for this next year, no matter when you’re listening to this, there’s one thing that I’ve been really guilty of. There are certain ways an entrepreneur sets goals that completely, completely, completely sets you up for failure. Ways that completely makes your team members learn how to lose and not how to win. But, there’s also a way to set up goals that are just really, really wrecking your progress, your happiness, and your contentment in life right now.

Okay, now, as I drop this hammer on you of talking about the normal goal setting process, which is completely deficient and not effective, and it’s the way that I’ve been doing it for years, I’ll actually be doing a call on this topic. You can head over to Carrot.com/EPIC to save your spot. I do this call for free every year and everyone is welcome. We aren’t selling a darn thing on it, I just want to share and really serve you, our carrot community.

I’ll walk through my exact annual planning process. And this year it’s changed more than it ever has. My team has gotten bigger and I’ve learned so many things about myself as a leader… so many things about myself, how to scale a company, how to have more time, more freedom, make a bigger impact, and also grow the finances and grow an amazing team. I’ve integrated some new processes I’ve learned from my coaches that have changed the game on how we surround our team, around targets, around goals, and how to really make it work.

So, on today’s CarrotCast, I want to walk you through a couple key concepts as your leading into this next year, to help you with your planning and avoid some of the mistakes we’ve made along the way.

People talk about this a lot, you gotta believe it before you see it and I’m truly and example of this. I didn’t even really know how to do any of this but I believed I can make an impression in the real estate community. In the investment world I knew it could create an income that I would be happy with but I also knew I could create a life that I wanted.  Justin Colby

** Before you dive into this episode of the CarrotCast, it does contain some profanity. **

I’ve got a great, great guest on this episode of the CarrotCast. I’ve known Justin for years and years. He’s actually at my last Mastermind in Sedona Arizona, so I wanted to bring him on to talk about how he’s building his business, and what he’s really shifted in a big way for 2018.

What was working for him to wholesale and flipping houses to the tune of 100 plus last year, is not working for him going into this year quite so much, so he is going to be adjusting those in massive ways.

Justin has a great story. He is kind of one of those guys who came from being completely broke, and he talks about a pretty funny story of how he and his friend kind of skirted the car impound people by trading cars multiple states away for a period of time to keep their cars a little bit longer. Some funny, funny stuff, entrepreneur story stuff.

He also digs into the mindset and how they scaled their business from doing a couple deals to over a hundred in a year. And they’ve done 700+ deals so far in their career. He breaks down what’s working for them now versus what wasn’t.

Let’s dive into Justin Colby’s story on how he went from being broke and struggling to scale his business working five hours a week in his business now, how he formed a great partnership, what to look for in partnerships. All kinds of amazing things!

… Agents, if you’re out there listening, people need to like and trust you. I mean you’re going to have a much easier time of gaining clients if they know, like, and trust you. They get to know and trust you by seeing you. By you showing up everywhere. Why are you giving them value by you helping them and I’ll you value, value, value. Krista Mashore

I was in Boise, Idaho, about three or four months back at a mastermind and met amazing, amazing people. Some people literally have businesses doing 50, 100 plus million a year. And people from different types of industries, a little of everything was in there. And there was this lady there that she and I connected, hit it off and said, “We need to hop on and do a podcast.” And she’s in the real estate market. She’s the number one real estate agent in Brentwood, California and sold 144 homes last year.

She started like a lot of us start, where your back is against the wall and you really need to go out there and make something of yourself or create a business or create the income. She was the same way. She went through a really, really terrible divorce and some other things and she walks you through that time in her life and how she went on to them build this business.

And she also breaks down her marketing strategies. Exactly what she’s doing to grow that business. It’s very similar to the way we teach. It’s using content and it’s going after being consistent. But she does it in a very specific way. So we invited her on the podcast, under the CarrotCast, and she is a Carrot customer, by the way, an AgentCarrot customer as we’re in BETA, with her and lots of other agents. We’re really building out the AgentCarrot platform.

Just go to agentcarrot.com, to get on that. Or if you’re listening to this one, AgentCarrot is rolled out, you can go to agentcarrot.com and join if you’re a real estate agent. But we’re going to break apart her story, the mindset tricks that she uses that work insanely well for her, to get her mindset orientated and also, what is her Realtor marketing strategy mix, that does 150 plus houses a year, as Brentwood California’s number one real estate agent.

We’re going to break all that down in this episode of the CarrotCast. And I think you’re going to insanely, insanely enjoy it. All right, without further ado, welcome on Krista Mashore.

    Trevor’s 5 Non-Negotiables for Business and Life

6:50 – Trevor’s backstory. His journey and struggles.

13:00 – Struggling with motivation. How he worked through being in the wrong business mindset.

17:25 – Non-negotiable #1: Singular focus on ONE big thing

Entrepreneurs see opportunities everywhere. That can be good and bad. Taking on too many opportunities can cause burnout and lack of clarity.

During Trevor’s early entrepreneurial journey, he was running two software companies and a publishing company while also managing real estate investments and performing some consultations. It drained him and eventually he wasn’t performing at his best.

Part of his non-negotiable list, Trevor gave himself permission to focus on just 1 big thing and concentrate on performing at his very best.

25:25 – Non-negotiable #2: Have fun and a mission you believe at your core

After four years, fun wasn’t part of Trevor ‘s core mission. And it was starting to show in his life.

You need a mission. You need to feel like you’re making a difference. And, you need to have fun.

Don’t beat yourself up if you don’t have a solid, defined purpose. Don’t stress, it will come along naturally. For Trevor, he realized that he had actually bake it into what he did every day.
