Money doesn’t necessarily give you freedom and flexibility. But it can help drive you towards your main purpose in life. Trevor Mauch

This week was a pretty darn important week at Carrot. We launched a new feature, had some deep conversations with the team, and it really made me dive deeper into our business and we can help real estate entrepreneurs really take their businesses to the next level.

I’ve talked about my 3 F’s in business. Carrot has been build to create freedom, provided financial stability, and allowed flexibility. As we’ve grown, some questions have started to pop up …

What happens when the 3 F’s have been achieved and are stable? What is the next step? How do we stay hungry?

    The Answer: You need Purpose.

I mentioned a new resource that we rolled out this week. Our clients now have the option of free SSL on their websites. This new resource makes a HUGE impact on how our members can do business. It was created with a purpose.

This purpose ties into our mission, “Add humanity to business and help people regain time for the things that matter.” Members can now spend more time on the things that give them passion rather than having to work on something that doesn’t.

Listen to this episode and get into the mindset of opening up some of the closed doors that are holding you back from being the best real estate entrepreneur you can be. Enjoy!

It’s your duty to not be working a job that drains more energy than it’s giving you. Trevor Mauch

Back in 2010, a few years before we launched Carrot, I had an idea and also I had a problem. The big problem I had was we live in rural Oregon, a small town of about 25,000 people called Roseburg. We loved the town. It’s such an amazing town, but we couldn’t find the people that we wanted to surround ourselves with. We couldn’t find the group. We couldn’t find the networking opportunities to find other people, especially young people who wanted to make things happen.

Myself and a friend, we launched what we called the Young Entrepreneurs Society. The Young Entrepreneurs Society has gone on to be the most active entrepreneur group in all of rural Oregon. There’s Portland, Bend, and Eugene, which is pretty much those are the biggest three cities in Oregon, add in Salem, but our small town has one of the most active, vibrant entrepreneur communities in all of Oregon. Why did that happen? It happened because we were crazy intentional with recognizing the need and the importance of community, the need and the importance of surrounding ourselves with other people who are doing amazing things that can help lift us up instead of soloing away in our own offices or in our own buildings.

The same year, we started theLoft Entrepreneurs Cowork Space, which is 8,000 square feet, downtown Roseburg, Oregon where Carrot is actually based out of, and we have other amazing, amazing businesses here. The reason I’m saying this is every single month we have what we call Pub Talks. Pub Talks is where between about 40 to 70 people get together here in theLoft, and we actually have an amazing, amazing discussion with the speaker. It just to happened to be that I do the first one every single year. About two minutes into my talk this time, one of my team members came up and also Seth Buechley, a mentor of mine, said, “We’ve got to get this on audio.

We’ve got to record it.” What you’re listening to today is an audio recording of that Pub Talk I did in January 2018 just updating people on my journey but also pointing out some of the important things I had to do as a human being, as an entrepreneur to really live a charged life, to really live a life that was going to unleash me into the world so I could make the biggest impact I wanted, so I could make the most income that I could, and then I could also be the happiest in business because I know so many people who are insanely rich bur are insanely unhappy, too.

Some of the stuff on here are some things you’ve probably never heard me talk about before. Hopefully, you resonate with some of the messages.

Some of it won’t be really directly connected with you a whole lot. In here when I talk about my Energy Audit Worksheet, which I give out to the live crowd here, you can get that for free as well. That Energy Audit Worksheet changed my life completely in three years by doing this 15 to 20-minute exercise every quarter.

Go to oncarrot.com/energy, and you can download that same energy audit that literally I do every quarter that absolutely changed my life from being overworked, not really crazy fired up about the individual work that I was doing, no real passion or no real clear purpose in how I was going to go out there and tackle the world with my business, into the opposite of that.

Most of the work I do today is energy work. Most of the work I do today really amplifies the impact I want to make in the world. You can do it with that worksheet. I walk people through it in this talk.

Hopefully, you enjoy this talk. This is a live talk I did here in front of about 50 people here at theLoft. Most of the people in that room were entrepreneurs, they want to be entrepreneurs.

There were actually three of our customers there, one of them here locally and two of them that are the largest real estate agents, the number one and number two agent in all of Minnesota five years in a row. They flew in for the week, and they’re in the crowd as well. Have an amazing time.

Go to oncarrot.com/energy and grab that worksheet. Also, go to the CarrotCast on iTunes and give us a rating and review. If you enjoy the energy audit if you enjoy this episode or have enjoyed any of them, help us get over 100 reviews. We’re sitting right on the precipice of getting over 100 reviews.

Spend the four minutes. Please, please please, go over there. That’s how we get this message in front of more people so we can help to change the way people do business. All right, I hope you enjoy the talk.

People talk about this a lot, you gotta believe it before you see it and I’m truly and example of this. I didn’t even really know how to do any of this but I believed I can make an impression in the real estate community. In the investment world I knew it could create an income that I would be happy with but I also knew I could create a life that I wanted.  Justin Colby

** Before you dive into this episode of the CarrotCast, it does contain some profanity. **

I’ve got a great, great guest on this episode of the CarrotCast. I’ve known Justin for years and years. He’s actually at my last Mastermind in Sedona Arizona, so I wanted to bring him on to talk about how he’s building his business, and what he’s really shifted in a big way for 2018.

What was working for him to wholesale and flipping houses to the tune of 100 plus last year, is not working for him going into this year quite so much, so he is going to be adjusting those in massive ways.

Justin has a great story. He is kind of one of those guys who came from being completely broke, and he talks about a pretty funny story of how he and his friend kind of skirted the car impound people by trading cars multiple states away for a period of time to keep their cars a little bit longer. Some funny, funny stuff, entrepreneur story stuff.

He also digs into the mindset and how they scaled their business from doing a couple deals to over a hundred in a year. And they’ve done 700+ deals so far in their career. He breaks down what’s working for them now versus what wasn’t.

Let’s dive into Justin Colby’s story on how he went from being broke and struggling to scale his business working five hours a week in his business now, how he formed a great partnership, what to look for in partnerships. All kinds of amazing things!

… Agents, if you’re out there listening, people need to like and trust you. I mean you’re going to have a much easier time of gaining clients if they know, like, and trust you. They get to know and trust you by seeing you. By you showing up everywhere. Why are you giving them value by you helping them and I’ll you value, value, value. Krista Mashore

I was in Boise, Idaho, about three or four months back at a mastermind and met amazing, amazing people. Some people literally have businesses doing 50, 100 plus million a year. And people from different types of industries, a little of everything was in there. And there was this lady there that she and I connected, hit it off and said, “We need to hop on and do a podcast.” And she’s in the real estate market. She’s the number one real estate agent in Brentwood, California and sold 144 homes last year.

She started like a lot of us start, where your back is against the wall and you really need to go out there and make something of yourself or create a business or create the income. She was the same way. She went through a really, really terrible divorce and some other things and she walks you through that time in her life and how she went on to them build this business.

And she also breaks down her marketing strategies. Exactly what she’s doing to grow that business. It’s very similar to the way we teach. It’s using content and it’s going after being consistent. But she does it in a very specific way. So we invited her on the podcast, under the CarrotCast, and she is a Carrot customer, by the way, an AgentCarrot customer as we’re in BETA, with her and lots of other agents. We’re really building out the AgentCarrot platform.

Just go to agentcarrot.com, to get on that. Or if you’re listening to this one, AgentCarrot is rolled out, you can go to agentcarrot.com and join if you’re a real estate agent. But we’re going to break apart her story, the mindset tricks that she uses that work insanely well for her, to get her mindset orientated and also, what is her Realtor marketing strategy mix, that does 150 plus houses a year, as Brentwood California’s number one real estate agent.

We’re going to break all that down in this episode of the CarrotCast. And I think you’re going to insanely, insanely enjoy it. All right, without further ado, welcome on Krista Mashore.

    Trevor’s 5 Non-Negotiables for Business and Life

6:50 – Trevor’s backstory. His journey and struggles.

13:00 – Struggling with motivation. How he worked through being in the wrong business mindset.

17:25 – Non-negotiable #1: Singular focus on ONE big thing

Entrepreneurs see opportunities everywhere. That can be good and bad. Taking on too many opportunities can cause burnout and lack of clarity.

During Trevor’s early entrepreneurial journey, he was running two software companies and a publishing company while also managing real estate investments and performing some consultations. It drained him and eventually he wasn’t performing at his best.

Part of his non-negotiable list, Trevor gave himself permission to focus on just 1 big thing and concentrate on performing at his very best.

25:25 – Non-negotiable #2: Have fun and a mission you believe at your core

After four years, fun wasn’t part of Trevor ‘s core mission. And it was starting to show in his life.

You need a mission. You need to feel like you’re making a difference. And, you need to have fun.

Don’t beat yourself up if you don’t have a solid, defined purpose. Don’t stress, it will come along naturally. For Trevor, he realized that he had actually bake it into what he did every day.

    39:05 – Non-negotiable #3: Be consistent and predictable

Non-negotiable is about getting eliminating the boom or bust business cycle. Finding ways to create a consistent and predictable income.

There are times that you might be turning away money, but it’s worth it because it allows you to better predict your income and plan for the future.

    Non-negotiable #4: Build a long-term valuable asset

Entrepreneurs easily get caught up on the transactional side of their business. Don’t be left with anything to show but a handful of contracts.

You’ll need to build something that has its own value. A force with a team and one that you might even be able to sell one day.

41:30 – Non-negotiable #5: Find your purpose. Live and work with your unique abilities

It can be as simple as spreading kindness or making someone laugh every day.

Although, at the same time, you’ll need to work on finding and crafting your unique abilities. Part of that is discovering what give you energy and what kills it.

Use Trevor’s energy audit to explore this concept. Follow his plan for adding more energy producing tasks to your day and remove some energy killing tasks.

    Trevor’s energy audit: https://carrot.com/energy

Ideally, you’re looking to spend at least 60% of your time on things that give you energy.

How to Attract a Mentor You Want Without Killing Your Chances of Working with Them

Listen to the CarrotCast Podcast and Subscribe Below!

When trying to find a mentor or influencer, ask not about what you can get but rather be passionate about learning about what drives them and where they want to go.  Trevor Mauch

On this episode of the CarrotCast, I’m going to talk about attracting a mentor and how you can kill your chances of working with them in a matter of moments.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a new entrepreneur. It doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced entrepreneur. You should always be mentoring someone as well as be a mentee. That means you need the exchange of knowledge, the exchange of value and the exchange of real conversation on a consistent basis.

There is a right way and wrong way to go about getting a great mentor. Your mindset from the start has to be on what you can do for them, not what they can do for you.

Ask more questions if you’re trying to find a mentor. What do they care about? What are their passions? Then, how can you provide value to what they care about?

Be curious about their story. Provide value and excitement to the person that you’re trying to gain knowledge from.

Please, please, please don’t waste time. Give value to them and show true interest in them. Stop selling you and your ideas.

Unleash your in your business so your business can be a vehicle for you to make the impact you want to make. So your business can be the vehicle for you to achieve the life and lifestyle you want. And, so you can inspire other around you to do the same – Trevor Mauch

88 deals this year. But … feeling lost and overworked rather than excited and full of energy. That was part of an email I received the other day from one of our Carrot clients.

We often look at our revenue as “mine” rather than a tool to build a business. That is where we fail at building the freedom and flexibility within our finances.

On this episode of the CarrotCast, I want to unleash you in your business so your business can be a vehicle for you to make the impact you want to make.  So your business is the vehicle for you to live the lifestyle that you want. And, inspire others around you to do the same.

How is this possible? Find out.
